August is done we are 8 months down. Sept begins a new month what will the markets bring in September? What did they do in August?
I don’t usually track daily portfolio closes unless my portfolio is hitting a new milestone high, like $500,000 or $600,000. While it hits highs all the time those are the ones I track August started good then turned south with that big Monday drop at one time I was down around $20,000 total give or take a grand. Did I panic? Did I sell? Nope I had invested the week before as that was a payday week and just sat back and watched my portfolio climb back up. A few good days and it ended the month in the positive. Not the big amounts that had happened before but it was a positive.
Another good month for dividends, but I had to over RILY dropping the dividend which last year was $150.00 so while it was a valiant effort I fell short of a positive month and ended in the negative by a very little bit. This month was -.246 percent lower than last August. Even with the suspended dividend the dividends are growing. November might be hard to beat but going forward I think I’m set up for some nice dividends.
Year over year my dividends are up 12.58 percent. I would like to keep this above 15 percent but doesn’t look like it will happen this year next year it could very well happen as I’m making some portfolio changes.
Some of the changes I’m going to be making is selling stocks I don’t see myself adding to. While some maybe good I want a more concentrated portfolio that can be dividend driven. Most of the plan will be executed in the next few months.
Here is my top 10, GOOG, and ABBV swapped places. DHI and MO moved up dropping USHYX down to the number 9 spot. This month the top ten makes up 63.67 percent of my portfolio this month. It rose from the 62.88 percent from last month.
Overall the portfolio had an excellent month considering the big drop at the beginning. It recovered nicely. For the month my portfolio gained $10139.37. At the end of August my portfolio has gained $98,858.70 for the year.
I sold Target and bought with the proceeds DHI, PPL, and NEE. I want a more concentrated portfolio. This is a start I also bought LYB, MO OMF and SBUX. Got a nice Dividend raise in MO.
What could be better I well run dividend portfolio. That can withstand price drops and dividend cuts. Sometimes I get the sell right as with WBA other times I miss thinking a stock is going to rebound like RILY and MPW. Lessons are always to be learned.

As I wrap this months report up I’m very pleased with everything. This shows that no matter what you can do the same as I have done and the earlier you start the better off you will be. Just constant buying good quality stocks that raise their value and raise their dividends.
